Few were expecting Bayern Munich to finish third last season, but Toni Kroos can see it happening all over again.
The recently-retired former Bayern midfielder was weighing up the transfer activity of Bundesliga sides on his podcast, and made a claim that may surprise many.
Bayern‘s 11-year Bundesliga winning run was ended in 2023/24 by Bayer Leverkusen, and they also finished trophyless for the first time since 2012.
On top of that, Bayern even dropped down to third in the table behind Stuttgart, their worst league finish in 13 years.
Despite a summer rebuild that’s seen heavy spending and a new head coach, Kroos can see it happening all over again, but not because of Stuttgart.
Predicting that Leverkusen will defend their title, he added: “My tip is that Borussia Dortmund will finish second.
“About a month and a half ago I would have said that Dortmund would finish fifth if things went well. In my opinion, they have made very poor transfers in the last few transfer periods. But this summer they have done a sensational job.
“Guirassy is a very good striker who is still injured, but when he is fit again he will score a lot of goals. With Waldemar Anton they have signed a very consistent and good central defender.
“Pascal Groß is someone who brings a footballing component that has perhaps been missing in recent years.
“Couto played against me at Girona, who had a surprisingly good season overall. In my opinion, he has great qualities, especially in attack and dribbling. A really good player. Dortmund have strengthened themselves incredibly well.”
