Among the many complaints over the Club World Cup, Thibaut Courtois won’t accept those about the quality.
The tournament has been criticised for its poor attendances, lack of viewers, the US heat and storms and of course the longest held complaint – the lack of space for it in the schedule and what that will do to players.
However, Courtois isn’t having the idea that the quality is poor.
Speaking after helping Real Madrid through to the quarter-finals with a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Juventus, the Belgian No.1 made his defence.
“If you believe four Twitter users who think the level is crap, you’re wrong,” he said.
“Those who understand football know that Brazilian teams are good, that Al-Hilal is an excellent team, that Monterrey can easily beat Dortmund today.”
Dortmund only narrowly beat Monterrey, and the quarter-finals only contain five European teams out of a possible eight when many were expecting a far higher number.
