One of the hottest coaching talents in world football, Ruben Amorim has Sporting fans worried for the first time.
With links to the world’s biggest teams thanks to his incredible achievements in Portugal, Amorim for once hasn’t ruled out a departure.
The former midfielder is odds-on to take over at Liverpool after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
Multiple outlets are also linking him with Barcelona, who will be managerless in the summer.
Amorim has so far deflected questions about Liverpool, but when asked if he would follow Alonso and commit himself to Sporting next season, he turned down the question.
“No, I can’t,” he said. “Sporting is already dealing with its future.
“I gave my word and I won’t go back on it. If we don’t win titles, I will leave Sporting. It was clear from the beginning.
“It was the bet I made with the players, because we have to win. So, first we’re going to try to win the titles and then we’ll see. We’re on the right track.
“The future has been in the works for a long time and we’re outlining what it will be.”
Asked about his £12million release clause, he added: “I don’t want to dwell too much on my future.
“I owe a lot to Sporting and whatever has to happen will happen, but there will be no pressure to leave because I owe a lot to Sporting. I’m very happy here.”
