Sporting CP coach Rui Borges isn’t at all surprised to see Real Madrid linked with his captain.
Reports in Spain claim that Jose Mourinho is eyeing Morten Hjulmand as one of his first signings upon switching Benfica for Madrid.
And for Borges, it’s just normal.
“I see it as something natural,” he said. “Especially considering what a great player he is and the great seasons he’s had at Sporting.
“He’s a player who plays a lot of games a year. His quality is obvious to everyone.
“It doesn’t surprise me at all that Real Madrid or another club wants him.”
While interest in Hjulmand isn’t a surprise given recent performances, the man wanting him is.
After a December Lisbon derby, Mourinho said of the Dane: “There’s a Sporting player who’s untouchable.
“He controls the game, commits the fouls he wants, and once again leaves the game without a single yellow card.
“Regarding that player, there’s a double standard.”
Hjulmand waited until March before responding.
“I don’t understand and I don’t know what he meant by that,” he said.
“I have a good relationship with the referees. Sometimes I disagree, because I want to win the games.
“In fact, I even learned Portuguese so I could talk to the referees.
“I learned to be careful when I receive a yellow card in the first few minutes. I know that in a mere duel a red card can follow.”
