Real Sociedad’s Russian midfielder Arsen Zakharyan was stopped from traveling to England over visa issues.
Local media outlet Diario Vasco claims Zakharyan was waiting in Paris to make the trip, but wasn’t cleared and headed back to Spain.
That meant he was unavailable to face Manchester United in the Europa League, but teammate Hamari Traoré was granted a permit.
Real Sociedad have kept quiet when asked for an explanation, with suggestions it could be due to restrictions on Russians following the country’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
However, it should be noted that PSG’s back-up goalkeeper Matvei Safonov traveled to face Liverpool on Tuesday and seemingly had no such issues.
