With the Bundesliga title decided in Bayern Munich’s favour, one thing to watch as the season ends is if Harry Kane can make history.
The England captain is currently on 30 goals after 24 league games and is on course to compete for the all-time single-season scoring record.
The current record holder is Robert Lewandowski, who took the honour from Gerd Muller in 2021 with 41 goals.
It looked like his feat would never be beaten when he left for Barcelona, but Kane is on his way.
Now responding to the Englishman’s form, Lewandowski has explained why it isn’t as impressive as it might seem.
“Harry always scores so many goals, he plays really well and does a great job,” Lewandowski said.
“And then I saw that I managed that in 29 games… If I had played 34 games, I imagine I would have scored even more goals!”
It’s true that Lewandowski provided a far higher goal per game rate, missing five matches through injury while Kane has so far played every league match.
“Thanks to him, I can now be even prouder of my record,” Lewandowski added.
Slightly bitter perhaps, but it’s fair to say he has a point…
