Real Madrid are under attack, this time from Sevilla.
Los Blancos have been the centre of attention in Spanish football over the past few weeks, first addressing a critical letter accusing LaLiga referees of corruption and then refusing to attend a meeting to qualm matters.
Problems started long before that, though, with Real Madrid TV regularly making compilation clips of referees’ mistakes against their team before they officiated their next match.
One team that took issue with that was Sevilla, and again their president has torn into the team from the capital.
Speaking after a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona, José María Del Nido Carrasco said: “Real Madrid’s statement on the referees is intolerable and unacceptable.
“It calls into question the honour of the referees and the competition. The world of football must denounce both publicly and in court a statement that attacks the integrity of this sport.
“But the worst of all is that it does not call our attention. Real Madrid is trying to destroy Spanish football.
“It has been doing so for some time with Real Madrid TV and through different practices. We cannot tolerate a club of the calibre of Real Madrid trying to destroy us.”
He continued: “I would like to take this opportunity to make two points. Firstly, to give our unconditional support to the referees.
“We will not tolerate their honour being called into question, and also being pointed out in front of the entire public. What they want is to put pressure on them so that they do not whistle freely.
“And secondly, I am very surprised by Barcelona’s position, which has not publicly stated that it is because they agree that the referees are damaging to Real Madrid.
“Is it really worth Barcelona’s while to admit this type of behaviour in order to pick up the crumbs that Real Madrid receives? I invite them, as always, to lead Spanish football and not to try to destroy it.”
