Despite comments that he was hoping otherwise, Endrick is leaving Lyon to head back to Real Madrid.
The Brazilian starlet has garnered plenty of attention on loan in France, showing his future world class talent.
He was unable to do so in Madrid under Xabi Alonso, but will be returning, likely under Jose Mourinho.
In a social media post, he referred to those months of anxiety under Alonso, and how Lyon set him up for a brighter future.
“It’s here that I found what I needed to regain my strength,” he said.
“To follow my instincts. To attack. Like a lion. To defend my family, who supported me, and those who welcomed me so warmly here.
“The months of anxiety have given way to months of joy, victories, but also learning.
“I’ve made new friends. I will carry this city within me for the rest of my life, in my heart and in my memory. Thank you for everything, Lyon!”
The timing comes just two days on from Endrick being included in Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man squad for the World Cup.
Ancelotti, who coached Endrick in Madrid, advised him to leave for regular football ahead of the World Cup.
Now his return puts the future of Gonzalo Garcia in doubt, with Borussia Dortmund one of the teams lurking.
