As if the latest Clasico needed any more spice, Joan Laporta has added a bucketload by discussing Barcelona’s relationship with Real Madrid.
The Barca president was speaking the day before the pair clash in the Supercopa final in Saudi Arabia, and didn’t hold back.
“The relations between Barça and Real Madrid are bad, they are broken,” he said.
“There are different issues that have distanced us. If we were already eternal rivals, now a situation is occurring that makes the relations not good.
“This does not mean that there is no respect. We will act like that. But the relations are completely broken.”
Laporta’s comments come after rival Madrid president Florentino Perez went in two-footed over the Negreira case during his November address to members.
“It’s a shame that no Spanish referee was selected for the Club World Cup,” he said.
“And even more so that Barça had paid more than 28 million to the vice-president of referees for eight years.”
Reports claim Perez isn’t as upset about the Negreira case as he is about Barcelona abandoning his Super League project.
Speaking earlier on, Laporta said: “We have a position to reach a new agreement with UEFA and we believe it is the best for football.
“We are looking for peace in European football… Others seem not to.”
