Uli Hoeness has warned Bayern Munich about Real Madrid’s win at all costs mentality in his typically unique fashion.
Bayern will face Madrid again in the Champions League and both teams have bad memories of their opponents, with Real even nicknaming Bayern the ‘black beast’.
Bayern have been absolutely flying this season towards an easy Bundesliga title, and many consider them the best team in Europe.
Yet despite disarray at Madrid with Xabi Alonso sacked and replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa, Hoeness still sees their threat.
First though, he pointed out they don’t exactly do it pretty.
“They don’t play good football,” the honorary president said.
“But they are outstanding in terms of experience, they are in peak physical condition.
“They are not doing so well in the league again, but they can live off their wealth of experience.”
No favourites
Asked if Bayern are favourites, he added: “It would be totally presumptuous to assume they would advance.
“But we haven’t had such great chances in terms of playing quality as this year for a long time.
“But you can’t just say you’ll win the Champions League.”
