Achraf Hakimi made headlines across Europe by saying he deserves to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or, and as it turns out, PSG weren’t exactly in agreement.
L’Equipe report that the treble winners tried to get that passage of the Canal+ interview with Hakimi cut from the recording, but failed.
That’s because PSG not only think it could split the final vote and damage Ousmane Dembele’s chances, but they’re also worried about its impact on the dressing room.
The passage which caused such controversy was the Moroccan saying: “People put me in the debate for the Ballon d’Or, it’s a dream I would never have thought of.
“If I have the possibility of winning it, I think I deserve it too.
“After the historic season I had… There aren’t many players who have scored in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals as a defender, it’s more difficult.
“People think I’m a striker or a midfielder, but no, I play in a line of four, and I have to think about defending.
“It’s more difficult. The statistics I had this year are not those of a normal defender . I think when a defender does that, he deserves more than a striker.”
