Paul Pogba’s dream of facing PSG in the Champions League is over with AS Monaco dropping him from their squad for the knockout stages.
According to L’Equipe, the 2018 World Cup winner has been omitted along with long-term injured duo Mohammed Salisu and Takumi Minamino.
Replacing them are Simon Adingra, Wout Faes, and Krépin Diatta.
Pogba is currently suffering from a calf injury having played just 30 minutes in three matches since signing as a free agent.
It looked like an ideal fit for Pogba moving to the quiet atmosphere of the Principality after time out through injury and suspension.
Yet things haven’t worked out, with even the club admitting as much.
“Clearly, the rehabilitation program we had in place for him isn’t working as we’d hoped,” general manager Thiago Scuro said.
“Everyone is continuing to work hard to find solutions for him. We’re all disappointed that he’s having so much difficulty getting consistent playing time.
“There are two possibilities: either it works, he’ll return to the pitch and have an impact on the team, or it doesn’t work, and of course, both parties can sit down next summer for another discussion.”
