German pundit Didi Hamann thinks Joshua Kimmich should follow Julian Nagelsmann out of the national team set up.
Nagelsmann resigned as Germany coach after the team were knocked out of the World Cup in disappointing fashion.
The former Bayern coach said farewell after a last 32 defeat to Paraguay where he took most of the blame.
However, Hamann thinks another player should step up.
Hamann calls for Kimmich retirement
“I believe that Kimmich should no longer play a role in the national team,” he said. “He needs to let other players have a go.
“From such a player I expect him to take responsibility and say, I tried everything – and you can’t blame him for that – I didn’t succeed, I’m leaving now.”
Yet Hamann is very unlikely to get his wish.
Speaking after Germany’s exit, 31-year-old Kimmich said: “I’m just feeling empty right now and I don’t feel like speaking at all. But facing these situations is part of the process.
“Together we planned to play a very successful World Cup, to represent Germany with dignity and to make a small contribution to positive development in our country.
“And we failed. Again. And that’s killing me.
“Giving up is never an option for me. But I will certainly need more than a few days to recover.”
