Paul Pogba looked set to finally return for Monaco this weekend, but now there are serious concerns about his latest injury.
The French World Cup winner hasn’t played football since September 2023 with Juventus, having been kept out with an injury and doping ban.
Having already had one Monaco return derailed, new coach said he would be in this weekend’s squad against Paris FC.
However, on Friday Sébastien Pocognoli said: “He injured his ankle in training.
“We’re waiting for confirmation of the severity of the injury, but yes, he will be out. His ankle twisted a bit.
“We have to wait for further tests. It’s not easy, but I’m trying to keep him focused on the positives, to put things in perspective.”
The news has caused concern in France, with RMC Sport’s Kévin Diaz saying: “It’s a bit of a never-ending story, or rather, a story without a beginning.
“He was sidelined for a very long time, he had repeated injuries, then a major case that must have been very difficult to deal with psychologically, that’s for sure.
“Now, his body has to readjust to the impacts, the intensity, the daily work. But if it starts to be muscular, with mechanical problems… And then it will affect him mentally.
“We’ve all experienced that when you start getting injured once, twice: you have apprehension that prevents you from feeling free.”
He continued: “I wanted to believe it this summer. But when you keep having these setbacks… It’s starting to get really, really worrying.
“We hope he comes back and can play regularly, but for now, we’re far from that.”
