Germany striker Nick Woltemade is back home, and back entertaining off the pitch.
The Newcastle striker has separated himself out as someone rather unique, but that edge has gone missing slightly in England.
However, now back with his people ahead of the World Cup, he’s opening up again.
The ‘two-metre Messi’ was asked about the striker berth for Germany, and broadened his answer out into a general annoyance with the country.
“I think it’s a shame,” he said on Tommi Schmitt’s podcast. “Why is it always so divided?
“Everyone can have their opinion, but that doesn’t help any of us.
“We won’t make any progress if everyone says: ‘Sané shouldn’t play, Woltemade and Havertz have to leave. Undav has to play.’
“We’re such a cool country, we have such an awesome national team, such cool players.”
Woltemade then discussed his time at Newcastle, which started brilliantly before just one goal in 2026 and rumours of a departure.
“To be honest, I feel an enormous sense of relief when I score a goal,” he said.
“I really notice it immediately because you know: you’ve done your job, you’ve scored a goal.”
Addressing Eddie Howe moving him into midfield, he continued: “There are reasons for it; I played in a completely different position.
“Scoring goals wasn’t the main focus there. But I’m completely relaxed.
“What annoys me much more, however, is how it’s being made out to be. When everyone keeps saying, ‘He doesn’t score goals,’ I think to myself, ‘Well, I play in a completely different position!’”
