Now a huge name in both Germany and England, Nick Woltemade has admitted he’s still adjusting.
Having moved to Newcastle from Stuttgart for a massive €85million, he’s so far justified that price and has also become first choice for the national team.
Loved back home as one of the most down-to-earth and normal footballers going, ‘Big Nick’ has opened up on how fame is changing things.
“My parents still need to get used to it. A lot is happening to them right now, and to my sister even more so,” he told Stern.
“She is a primary school teacher. You can imagine what goes on in the class when the children find out that they are being taught by a woman named Woltemade.
“My sister and I have a great relationship. We talk on the phone almost every day. I’m proud of her and grateful that she’s put up with all of this for years.
“It’s not easy when your brother, who’s three years younger, is constantly in the spotlight just because he’s good at football. She plays handball, and far fewer people pay attention.”
