Ruben Amorim’s agency has ruled out a return to Benfica as coach.
Reports in Portugal claim that Eagles president Rui Costa has attempted to convince Amorim to return to the club he played for as a replacement for Jose Mourinho.
However, his agency, AS1 Sports, have ruled it out.
They told A Bola that he ‘wants to continue working exclusively abroad, a decision he made a long time ago’.
They added: “He did not have any meetings with Portuguese clubs to discuss working conditions, structure, squad, salaries or any other matters.
“Anything said beyond this is mere speculation and has no basis in reality.”
As such, Marco Silva continues to be Benfica’s top target.
However, Fulham haven’t given up hope of keeping him in London.
It’s claimed they’ve offered him a ‘financially advantageous contract’ to the one in Lisbon.
Silva is on €7.5million per year at Fulham, and was willing to accept around half of that to coach Benfica, yet Fulham could give him even more.
Should he change course, Benfica are considering out of work options such as Andoni Iraola, Xavi and Thiago Motta.
