With Paulo Fonseca handed a nine-month touchline ban for his extraordinary Lyon outburst, you’d think he’d get the sack.
However, in the world of John Textor, nothing’s that simple.
Fonseca, who only arrived back in France in January, was handed a dressing room ban until September and a touchline ban until November by the LFP disciplinary committee after his shocking confrontation with referee Benoit Millot.
The punishment was handed out on his birthday of all days, but his special day did end with a gift from club owner Textor.
“Happy Birthday Paulo! I stand with you today and always,” the Botafogo and Crystal Palace co-owner wrote on Instagram.
“You made a mistake, your apology was sincere, and your punishment is clearly too severe.
“You are clearly the right man for OL and we shall persevere. Allez l’OL!”
