Neymar finally returned to training with Brazil on Wednesday, but left with serious doubts over his World Cup participation.
Brazil’s 26-man squad arrived at the Granja Comary training centre, with Neymar returning for the first time since October 2023.
Yet despite the excitement over the all-time top scorer, O Globo report that soon changed to ‘apprehension and suspense’ over an imaging exam on Neymar’s calf.
They add that he stayed at a clinic for tests for about 1 a.m, with Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, the national team manager Cícero Souza, and supervisor Sérgio Dimas present.
Neymar himself then showed concern upon returning to the training centre.
Santos had earlier sent medical evidence claiming the injury wouldn’t prevent Neymar from training on the first day with the group, but that is exactly what happened.
He’s now unlikely to be included in a friendly squad against Panama, and is also expected not to feature against Egypt a week later.
To make matters worse for Neymar, Brazil still have the possibility of dropping him and replacing him.
Until June 1st teams can make changes to their final World Cup squads without any problems.
After that, cuts are permitted until 24 hours before the opening match, but only in the case of serious injury or illness.
The report further adds that the Brazilian federation closed the local clinic to the public around 4pm and made them sign a confidentially agreement, but the story still made the press.
They will now decide on their next move, with most anger directed as Santos.
