Luis Enrique’s first season as Paris Saint-Germain manager was dominated by Kylian Mbappe’s situation, so it wasn’t too surprising he was annoyed when 2024/25 got off the same way.
PSG kicked off the Ligue 1 season at home to Le Harve, their first game without arguably their greatest-ever player Mbappe.
They ended up winning 4-1 thanks to a late show from substitute Joao Neves, but pre-match there were still questions about Mbappe.
Luis Enrique was asked if he watched the Frenchman’s debut for Real Madrid, in which he scored in a European Super Cup win.
The Spaniard shook his head in cartoonish fashion throughout the question from one of his countryman, and then savaged him after he’d finished.
“How annoying are the Spanish, my goodness!” he said. “Are you still here? Until when?”
Eventually speaking about Mbappe, he added: “I didn’t expect you to ask me more about Kylian, but I don’t have anything to hide either. I’ve always loved Kylian, I think he’s a unique and exceptional person and player.
“I really enjoyed last year with him and his brother Ethan, to whom I send my regards, and I wish him the best wherever he goes. And in the competitions he plays with Real Madrid, even if he loses against us.”
