While he’s just come off a season as one of the world’s best attackers at Liverpool, not everyone at Bayern Munich is happy with Luis Diaz.
The Colombian is finally set to move to the Bundesliga in a €75million deal, becoming the third most expensive player in club history.
It ends a long term search for a new attacker, with Florian Wirtz joining Liverpool, Nico Williams staying at Athletic Bilbao and Nick Woltemade remaining at Stuttgart.
The deal is even more necessary with Jamal Musiala to miss much of the season with a broken leg, while Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane have left for free.
However, as leading German outlet Sport1 report, the deal has been met with ‘widespread rejection’ by Bayern fans who are already ‘panicking’.
The main reasons they cite are he’s too old, not good enough and too expensive.
Diaz is turning 29 in January and looking for one last mega contract at his peak, and he was actually one of the Reds lower earners at €4m per-year.
However, there are many other recent examples that could prove prescient, with many of Bayern‘s recent big transfers flopping, Harry Kane aside.
Joao Palhinha, Matthijs de Ligt, Lucas Hernández and Sadio Mané all failed to justify their big transfer fees, while Spanish speakers don’t often succeed in Munich – just look at Bryan Zaragoza.
