Sergio Aguero has taken issue with his former Manchester City teammate Aymeric Laporte.
The pair played together at City from 2018 to 2021, but find themselves on opposing sides this weekend.
Laporte’s Spain will be taking on Argentina, with Aguero a former striker for the national team.
Argentina have been hit with fixing accusations from Egypt, and Laporte seemed to join in during his pre-match media duties.
Laporta expresses concern over refereeing
He commented: “I’m not at all worried about aggression in football.
“If it’s tolerated and the referee does his job, I have no problem with it.
“It’s true that in recent matches we’ve seen things that have surprised us greatly, actions that are allowed to go unpunished.
“Especially against Argentina, a team that leaves a lot of marks.
“That shouldn’t be allowed in football, especially in such big competitions, because it can destabilise and frustrate you.
“It’s part of the referee’s job to control these things so they don’t get taken advantage of. If one or two players can do that, the match will be chaotic.
“From the beginning of the tournament, we’ve been a fairly fair team in that sense. We don’t go around hitting opponents or committing reckless fouls. And I think that’s what we have to do in this match.
“But it’s true that it will depend a lot on the refereeing.”
Aguero’s brutal response to his former teammate
Responding to the claims on a podcast, former teammate Aguero put the boot in.
“What surprises you? Don’t act tough because when we see each other, you back down, ” he said.
Aguero also made some more provocative comments about good friend Lionel Messi.
“At 39 years old he’s playing like he’s 20, and we’re here behind a camera…” he said.
“Nobody will ever equal him, many years will pass and there won’t be another like him, and neither we nor our children will ever see it.
“Messi is a porn star on the field, he f***s everyone.”
