Argentina are back-to-back World Cup semi-finalists, but this time it was far easier.
The reigning champions have made their way to the final four where they face England after downing Switzerland.
They’ve had to deal with plenty of abuse from their opponents along the way, including Egypt’s coach and players saying their defeat from 2-0 ahead was ‘fixed’.
It’s enough ammo for their enemies to fire with, and some press conferences have got spicy with claims of bias being pointed out by sensationalist reporters.
However, when it comes to the ease of their run, Argentina don’t have much to argue back with.
Argentina set World Cup first with easy run
Having downed Switzerland, this is the first time a team has made the World Cup semi-finals without playing a team ranked in FIFA’s top 10.
The Swiss were closest, but only 19th.
Before that they faced 19th-placed Egypt and 67th placed Cape Verde.
Their group stage consisted of Algeria, 28th, Austria, 24th and Jordan, 63rd.
Perhaps more fittingly, the final four is made up of FIFA’s top four.
France lead the way and face third placed Spain, with Argentina in second and their opponents England fourth.
On top of that, Argentina haven’t exactly dominated, coming back against Egypt and needing extra time to overcome Cape Verde and Switzerland.
