After perhaps inadvertently undermining head coach Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told his colleagues it’s time to stop.
The club legend turned manager is under increasing pressure with just two wins in his last five games, and there are rumors that an early Champions League exit could see him dismissed.
Laporta may have increased the pressure as a clip of him visiting the youth team has gone viral.
Barcelona Athletic, coached by former player Rafael Marquez, received huge praise from the president, who singled out their manager.
That has added to the pressure on Xavi, and with comments from other board members picking up traction, Laporta has had to intervene.
Cadena SER reports that, “Laporta knew about those interpretations [of his Marquez praise], and the next day, he publicly supported Xavi.
“There have been some comments, and the president has spoken with his fellow members of the board and told them not to criticize the coach in front of people and to monitor the comments that they make and that people close to them make.”
