Barcelona and Spain’s Lamine Yamal will be the 2024 Golden Boy Award winner, a jury member has revealed.
AS journalist and jury member Joaquín Maroto made the revelation on Esport3’s “Onze” program, two weeks before the prize-giving ceremony on July 26.
The prestigious award, created by Tuttosport, is given to the best player in the world under the age of 21.
Yamal is certainly under that age, having only just turned 17, and he will be the award’s youngest-ever champion.
Yamal became a Barcelona regular this season and has since shone at Euro 2024 with Spain, scoring a stunning strike against France that likely ended any debates over this year’s champion.
The Tuttosport journalists rarely get the award wrong, with the list of previous winners since its introduction in 2003 including Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Kylian Mbappe.
