A fascinating report from Gazzetta Italia has revealed that major European leagues are set to take on FIFA over the 2026 World Cup and new Club World Cup.
The story claims that LaLiga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, the Premier League, and others are combining with players’ unions from each country to fight against FIFA’s ever-increasing schedule
Specifically, they are targeting the expanded 2025 Club World Cup and 2026 World Cup which are both increasing game load without consideration for domestic competitions.
All leagues are meeting in London on April 25 and 26, and are looking to put together a legal despite over what Gazzetta calls an ‘anti-FIFA case’.
Claiming the scheduling is detrimental for both players’ health and the spectacle, the case will be the first of its kind if it hits the courts.
