Jose Mourinho’s trip to Ajax with Benfica reunited him with one of his greatest-ever players.
The Eagles won 2-0 away in Amsterdam and pre-match Mourinho shared a moment with Wesley Sneijder.
The former Inter Milan coach, who won the treble in 2010 with Sneijder as his main man, gave the ex-midfielder a hug and kiss on the head and then embraced former Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz.
Speaking to Dutch TV post-match, he poked fun at the Sneijdner with a number of comments.
When a presenter apologised for a delay in their interview because the ‘boys were talking’ Mourinho replied: “Khalid has to be lucky if Wes gives him a chance to speak, because the guy speaks so much.”
Asked about his kiss on the head for Sneijder, he later added: “Come on, the guy gave me a treble.
“The guy gave me the best year of my career. Him and other guys, but he was very crucial.”
Asked if he’d give Boulahrouz a kiss, he said: “It’s also for Khalid, but the fatty guy is very sweet.”
In more serious scenes, Mourinho was asked if he’d back Sneijder amid rumours he may be offered an executive role should Jordi Cruyff become the next sporting director.
“He’s capable of anything,” Mourinho replied.
Mark van Bommel added: “He’s still a huge name in the football world; wherever he goes, doors open. And he knows a lot about football.”
