Jose Mourinho was unsurprisingly nonplussed about talk of a referee striker in Portugal.
Speaking before the Lisbon derby, the Benfica coach was asked about the story making headlines in Portuguese newspapers.
“If the referees go on strike, I’m convinced that there are many referees in Europe who would like to officiate in the Portuguese league,” he responded.
“Nowadays, referees are professionals; I won’t say all of them, but I’m convinced that the best referees from the biggest European countries would be delighted.
“I think it wouldn’t be a big problem, the championship would continue, and the League would find solutions.”
