Jose Mourinho may be one of Turkey’s top influencers now he’s at Fenerbahce, but he has competition in Mauro Icardi.
The legendary European-treble-winning coach moved to Turkey in the summer but all is not going well, six points off league leaders Galatasaray.
Last time out the top two both won, but Gala did so with some controversy against Gaziantep as a potential handball in the penalty area was not given to the hosts in a 1-0 victory.
Taking to his five-and-a-half million Instagram followers, Mourinho used his Portugal’s incredible success at the Handball World Cup to mock his Istanbul rivals.
Posting a picture of the ball hitting Davinson Sánchez’s arm for Galatasaray, he wrote: “In the Handball World Cup that ended last Sunday, my Portugal brilliantly reached the semifinals and I want to congratulate them for such an achievement and the impact they will create on our country’s youth.”
The picture unsurprisingly caused lots of uproar, but Gala’s Mauro Icardi wasn’t having any of it.
Taking to his own social media, which has been an open book due to his wife (or former wife, no one quite knows) Wanda Nara, Icardi mocked Mourinho.
With wordplay on his self-given nickname ‘The Special One’ Icardi posted an Instagram story with Mourinho and the words ‘The Crying One’.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce face off again on February 22nd which promises to be a feisty encounter.
