Jose Mourinho hasn’t celebrated so much in a long time, but it was just unfortunate one of his favourite players was the victim.
The Benfica coach saw his side qualify for the Champions League knockouts in the most dramatic of fashions with Anatoliy Trubin’s stoppage time goal against Real Madrid securing progression on goal difference.
Mourinho went mad at the scenes, grabbing a ball boy to celebrate, but footage from the stands shows that before that he ran in front of Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
Addressing the moment in his post-match press conference, he said: “I apologised to him for the way I celebrated.
“But Álvaro is a football man and understands that at that moment one forgets that it is Real Madrid and that Álvaro is on the bench.”
