As is the way with LaLiga now, Javier Tebas was right back fighting against the league’s big guns – this time Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez.
Perez held Los Blancos’ General Assembly on November 24 and the legendary club president came out fighting over a number of issues such as the Ballon d’Or and the failed European Super League.
However, as sure as night follows day, Tebas was there to respond to his long-time sparring partner.
In a lengthy series of posts on X/Twitter, Tebas identified what he called Perez’s five big ‘lies’ and thankfully for the reading public, some of his answers were more amusing than others.
Take Perez’s assertion that his Super League would be free to air for example. Such an ideal seems like fantasy, and Tebas was more than happy to point that out.
“Free football? And free bread, tobacco, gin and free shots… All the best, of course,” he wrote.
Adding further thoughts on Perez and the Super League, he said: “I continue to see in him this messianic character, as the saviour of a type of football that, paradoxically, no one supports. For him, everything is going badly and only his ideas are good.
“The reality is very different, Real Madrid has increased its revenues, as has FC Barcelona. What Florentino Pérez does not seem to accept is that the centralized sale of TV rights has allowed other clubs to benefit from the extraordinary growth of Spanish football, which has increased its revenues.
“Florentino Pérez does not accept that collective success does not depend solely on Real Madrid.
“You cannot fool all the clubs in La Liga. We will continue to unmask your lies, your phantom amendments and half-truths.”
