Very well-known in Serie A due to his time as a player and coach, Igor Tudor is returning to the dugout in an expected location.
The Juventus legend was named coach last season, and kept the job into the current campaign up until his sacking in October.
Many would have expected a return to a lesser Italian side, but instead he’s joined one of England’s biggest in Tottenham, until the end of the season.
Spurs fans will be scratching their heads at the appointment, given he left Juventus with an eight-game winless streak.
One of the final games in his run was against Como, and the Croatian showed a lack of restraint by lashing out at their head coach Cesc Fabregas after a 2-0 defeat.
“Como? They’re a fake little team,” he said.
“They spent a lot and above all, it was the coach who chose all the players he recruited.”
Igor Tudor’s run in with McKennie
Later, after his sacking, USMNT star Weston McKennie revealed how Tudor impacted his career, first negatively, and then positively.
At the end of the 2024/25 season McKennie recounted what the former defender said to him: “I was told ‘hey you’re getting old’.
“Your body won’t be able to recover from matches like you used to, you have to lose some weight. It’s the only way you’ll be involved in this team.”
Despite the strong critique, McKennie said he took the advice and was repayed.
“I put my head down, I worked as usual, I went on a diet,” the American said.
“I don’t have many snacks anymore, and if I do, they’re healthy snacks. No more snacks. And I train more often. And I run a lot.
“This summer is the first summer where I didn’t mind taking my shirt off in the pool.”
Despite his incredibly strong links to Italy, Tudor is best rated as a coach outside of the country, which may come as some relief at Spurs.
He previously impressed at Marseille, while he also won the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray.
