AS Roma’s Friedkin owners can’t do anything right.
The Americans, who are also in talks to take over at Everton, have had a disastrous tenure in Serie A so far, particularly in 2024.
Roma have been through three coaches this year, replacing the hugely popular club legend Daniele De Rossi with the disastrous Ivan Juric, and now they’re on the previously retired Claudio Ranieri.
Ranieri, who has previously criticised the Friedkins, has come back in an effort to calm the supporters’ outrage and been given full control of footballing matters, including the job of choosing his successor.
The move makes some sense during a period of discontent, but overall, former Roma striker Antonio Cassano is livid.
The outspoken pundit said: “The Friedkins have made another mistake, they are incompetent.
“When they saw that the atmosphere was poisoned, they thought: ‘I’ll bring someone to calm everyone down’. It’s disgusting.
“With all due respect to Ranieri, who is a true gentleman, let’s be honest: he himself said that he is retired and was on holiday.
“He brings calm and peace, but Roma need something more, a coach with international experience, a winner with whom they can plan the future.”
He added: “Ranieri will then become a sporting director. This is disgusting.
“Friedkins, explain to me what kind of dirty deed this is. Just to calm people down? Since I’m not stupid, I know some people will be happy that Ranieri is back, but it’s disgusting to bring in someone who will probably become a club executive next year.
“It means you’ve already written off this season. It’s a risky move that will make the Friedkins pay for it. I wonder what role Ghisolfi, who always answers in French, has.
“You had to go to Roberto Mancini and convince him. He’s a top-level coach who knows how to put players against the wall.
“With Ranieri, you find yourself in a dead end already in November. They only want to save what can be saved so as not to fall, but do you know the fear they have caused the players?”
