Fenerbahce are planning a major splurge this summer, but whether Jose Mourinho is the one to benefit is another matter.
Club great turned pundit İlker Yağcıoğlu has claimed that the Turkish Super Lig side will break their record spend after finishing runners up to Galatasaray again.
“If [president] Ali Koç continues, he will spend a lot of money,” the pundit said.
“From what I heard, he has set aside a figure of 200 million euros and he will make the transfers without putting Fenerbahçe in debt.”
That should come as music to the ears of Mourinho, yet it appears he’s facing a fight.
Leading Turkish outlet Milliyet claims that Koç wants to part ways with the Portuguese, which is traditional for managers who don’t win the league with Fenerbahce.
Yet Koç likely won’t have the final call, with Mourinho heavily protected in his contract with a severance clause reportedly in the region of €18million.
Fenerbahce quite simply can’t afford to pay such a fee, and unless things get nasty, Mourinho could well be spending that €200m very soon.
