Ali Koc is no longer president of Fenerbahce, having lost the club’s elections to Sadettin Saran.
Koc departs the club after seven years in which Fener have failed to win the Turkish Super Lig.
One of Koc’s biggest achievements was signing legendary manager Jose Mourinho, but the Portuguese went trophyless in his first campaign before his second quickly turned sour.
Mourinho was sacked a month into the new season after being knocked out of the Champions League in the final qualifying round by Benfica.
In a stunning turn of events, Mourinho has since arrived at Benfica and threw shade back at Fenerbahce, saying it was a mistake to join them and that Benfica is ‘returning to his level’.
Koc responded by saying Mourinho was ‘belittling’ himself, and those words were very much his last as club president.
However, despite a less than great track record, Koc only lose the election by a small margin, picking up 12,068 votes to Saran’s 12,325.
The 59-year-old Saran was born in Denver and is half American, half Turkish.
