Less than a day after his stunning Champions League display for Chelsea, Estevao’s agent is already talking up a Barcelona switch.
The teen’s mega agent, André Cury, has been discussing Estevao with Què t’hi Jugues!, and admitted he tried to place him at the Camp Nou multiple times.
The former Barcelona employee said: “In 2018 I started doing reports on Estevao. In 2019, I took [Eric] Abidal to Brazil to watch one of his matches, and you could already see when he was 11 years old that he was different and that he wanted to be a Ballon d’Or winner.
“I’ve always talked about him, and now what I said is starting to be confirmed.
“After I left Barça, we talked about Estevao in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. We went to the offices to offer the player because I believed he had a great future in world football.
“Barça isn’t in a good financial position, and sometimes a deal can’t be made. It’s a shame.
“The technical staff always approved Estevao’s signing, and we met with Deco more than once, but Deco is tied to the club because the club’s finances don’t allow for a signing for the future.
“For example, with Vitor Roque, the club rushed into a mistake. A player can’t be signed and then, after four months, be no longer useful. With Vitor, the atmosphere wasn’t right to sign Estevao.”
Asked if Lamine Yamal’s emergence would have curtailed the signing, he added: “Think of the Neymar-Messi duo; it’s better than just having Messi or just having Neymar.
“Estevao has five years left on his contract and is enjoying himself at Chelsea. He has a special affection for Barça.”
The Spanish side instead ended up with another of Cury’s clients, Vitor Roque, who flopped, being loaned to Real Betis after six months, where he continually insulted his parent club before a sale back to Brazil.
Asked about that deal, he added: “I don’t know [why it didn’t work] either.
“If you sign a player, you have to do what Chelsea did: ease him in, give him playing time gradually. They often put Vitor on the wing, and he doesn’t play there.
“He [Xavi] asked me to please come in January. Vitor scored two goals in two consecutive matches and then didn’t play again.”
