Dominik Szoboszlai’s national team coach Marco Rossi may have put him in some hot water.
The Hungarian has arguably been Liverpool’s best player in an inconsistent season for his teammates, playing in a number of positions and scoring some delightful goals.
As such, Hungary coach Rossi spoke about his captain in a press conference, and made some comments that won’t go down well at Anfield.
“From the very beginning of his football career, Dominik had only one dream: to play for Real Madrid,” the Italian said.
Rossi claims he knows the details due to a very close relationship with Szoboszlai since his early career.
Rossi can see Dominik Szoboszlai staying at Liverpool
He added: “I don’t know if he’ll be able to take that step, because the decision depends on him and also on his club.
“The idea that constantly drives you is to realise your dream, to make it a reality. In my opinion, that’s the only thought that can guide Dominik.
“However, I absolutely don’t rule out the possibility that he’ll stay at Liverpool and extend his contract.
“He’s an essential player for Liverpool, and Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
The 25-year-old’s current contract runs until 2027, and there’s little doubt Madrid won’t be weighing up their old tricks of getting in a pre-agreement with the future free agent.
