Al Hilal have submitted their squad for the remainder of the Saudi Pro League and shockingly Darwin Nunez isn’t in it.
Saudi sides are only allowed a maximum of eight foreign players for league games, and Nunez has been pushed out by the arrival of Karim Benzema.
The Uruguayan was signed from Liverpool in the summer for a whopping €53million, but will now only feature in the Asian Champions League and cup games.
Pablo Mari, formerly of Arsenal, has also been dropped amid a busy January transfer window for Hilal.
Nunez has seven goals and five assists in 23 games since leaving Anfield in the summer, far from outstanding figures for such a pricey player.
It’s worth remembering that Liverpool paid a massive €85m to sign him from Benfica in 2022, and his combined career transfer fees now total €184m.
Aged just 26, Nunez’s biggest concern may now be over his spot with Uruguay at the summer World Cup.
