Dani Carvajal has set the record straight on a gesture that didn’t go down well with some Real Madrid fans.
The club captain was left out again by Alvaro Arbeloa in a 2-1 win away at Celta Vigo, making one start out of a possible 13 under the new coach.
Seven of those Carvajal hasn’t played a single minute and that was the case again vs Celta.
Late on while warming up, the game was stopped for a substation, but it was instead rival captain Iago Aspas who came on for the hosts.
Carvajal was spotted applauding on his former Spain teammate and Celta legend, a gesture that didn’t go down well with some Madrid fans.
Many on social media caught the moment and called it either disrespectful or sarcastic towards Carvajal for also not bringing on a veteran captain.
Carvajal responds to critics
And due to the number of complaints, the right back has now responded to one on Instagram.
“That gesture means RESPECT, respect for a legend of our league,” he wrote in a comment.
“Values are paramount, a quality I see you lack.”
