Cristian Chivu may not have the tactical acumen of his predecessor, but he’s already more entertaining than the man he replaced at Inter Milan.
The Romanian took over from Simeone Inzaghi after a failed treble attempt and there’s plenty of fear from Inter fans due to his lack of experience.
So far Chivu has a win and draw as Inter boss at the Club World Cup, but has impressed in press conferences with his laid back attitude, telling the media he wants more nastiness from his side.
Yet in his latest media appearance before their final group game against River Plate he turned the room into laughter.
Asked about his team’s mentality after their heartbreaking season, he explained: “The champions, in the most important moment, always give something more.
“Tomorrow is what counts. You have to roll up your sleeves and eat a bit of s***.
“You also have to chew it, look at yourself in the mirror and accept that you have to do it.”
He added: “Almost a month has passed since Munich (5-0 Champions League final defeat to PSG), but if we talk about that match every day we will never get over it.
“Evidently the lads have listened to my advice not to read comments and newspapers.
“Often there are bad moments, but it is easier to overcome them if you have a group of men next to you who look you in the eye.
“They have played three European finals in six years, they have won the second star, they have come close to other trophies. Often we only look at what we win, but for me it is the journey that counts the most.”
