Pep Guardiola’s poor run at Manchester City is splitting debate between football’s coaching fraternity.
The Spaniard has just one win in 10 in all competitions, and City are quickly dropping out of the Premier League title race, and perhaps even qualification in the Champions League.
Watching on as they continued their run with a 2-0 defeat away at Juventus, was the legendary Fabio Capello who tore into his former El Clasico rival.
“Guardiola is a great coach, but he is way too arrogant and presumptuous,” he said on Sky Italia.
“Sometimes he has even lost trophies because he wanted to prove that he was the one winning and not the players, and so he has left out key figures in the team in big games.
“In my opinion, tonight was an attempt to take the spotlight and the merit away from his team.”
Capello’s comments quickly went around the world, and even to Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid press conference.
However, the Italian wasn’t willing to indulge his countryman’s view.
“I don’t have any advice to give him,” Ancelotti said. “These last few games haven’t changed anything about what I think of him.
“He’s one of the best coaches in the world and he’s left his mark on the world of football. He’s been an innovator.”
