Brazil’s first training session of the international break in Curitiba was interrupted by a drone flying overhead.
Brazilian Football Association [CBF] security guards, municipal guards from Curitiba and military police were mobilised to capture the flying object and its operators, Globo reports.
After a few minutes of searching, three men were identified as responsible for the drone. One of them is Brazilian, another is Venezuelan and another is Ecuadorian, but initially said he was Colombian.
Brazil play Ecuador on Saturday in their next 2026 World Cup qualifier.
A spokesman for the military police confirmed they were treating the matter as espionage, saying: “We are working with this hypothesis, since in the first approach he was very reluctant and did not provide any information, and even provided false information about his identification. But we still do not have the full basis to make this referral.”
