The Brazilian football federation have offered a positive update on all-time top scorer Neymar.
Neymar was a surprise late call-up by coach Carlo Ancelotti, having not played for his country since October 2023.
His return was soon surrounded by drama what it emerged that Santos hadn’t adequately informed Brazil of a calf injury their captain had been struggling with.
Neymar was sent for private MRIs and missed Brazil’s first training session, and he’s since been missing for their final two friendlies before the tournament.
However, the CBF are positive that he can be involved for the second group game against Haiti on June 20th.
Brazil statement on Neymar
The CBF press release read: “The athlete Neymar underwent an MRI scan this Monday.
“The exam showed good progress in his treatment, within the expected parameters.
“He will continue the recovery and physical preparation process planned by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff.”
Carlo Ancelotti had earlier given his own update on Neymar.
“I think it’s quite clear,” he said. “He’s doing a great job individually.
“I believe he’ll have an MRI tomorrow and if everything is okay, he’ll be able to train with the group next week.”
Neymar has reportedly been away from the group, undergoing specialist physio in New Jersey.
Santos initially diagnoses Neymar with an edema in the calf.
However, when the striker joined up with his teammates, national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, confirmed a grade two injury, with a recovery period estimated at two to three weeks.
He is therefore almost certain to miss Brazil’s opener against Haiti on June 14th.
