Out of the picture at Lyon and Crystal Palace, American businessman John Textor is facing more problems at Botafogo.
Having won the team’s first-ever Copa Libertadores in 2024, his popularity has decreased into some unhelpful headlines.
And now his new coach Martin Anselmi is even worried.
The former short-tenured Porto coach joined for the new season and after four wins in five to start the campaign he’s now on four-straight losses.
Anselmi pleads to John Textor
Speaking after their latest defeat to Fluminense, the Argentine coach said: “Botafogo cannot lose any more players. It’s simple.
“You [journalists] see what’s happening.
“I’m not the owner of the club, I don’t decide these things, but, in my view, Botafogo cannot sell anyone else.
“Of course we need players. We are working day by day, the management is making an effort to bring in these players. In that sense, we think the same way.”
He added on his difficult start: “We want to have an identity, and that identity is not reflected on the field at the moment. I think that’s it.
“The team defends well, yes, but I don’t like to defend like that. I like to press, to have intensity.
“Fluminense worked the ball well. We have to play like we train every day. We have players who have the ability to play, because they demonstrate that to me every day and they have the will to do it.
“What do we have to do? Do what we do every day in training.”
