Edin Terzic may be set for some sleepless nights after Hans-Joachim Watzke‘s latest comments.
The Borussia Dortmund head coach previously enjoyed the backing of the club’s CEO, but that now has changed.
It’s widely reported that Watzke had multiple crisis meetings with sporting director Sebastian Kehl over Terzic’s future, but the club have delayed any decision until the summer.
And while it’s understood that Watzke was on the side of Terzic, he’s made sure to stress it isn’t a hill he’s willing to die on.
“I don’t know if I would say it like that again,” he explained. “My credibility was questioned, it’s all nonsense.
“I just wanted to say that Edin is an excellent coach. No more and no less. Football is a results sport. If you lose 15 times, it will be difficult.”
Rather than sacking Terzic in December after a dire run of form, BVB instead brought back former players Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender as assistant coaches.
Sahin, who impressed in the Turkish Super Lig with Antalyaspor, is heavily rumoured to be taking over full-time in the summer, when Terzic may head back upstairs in an executive role.
