With the dust still settling from a DFB Pokal defeat to Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund have had a day of chaos.
The Bundesliga giants continued their horrendous away form under Nuri Sahin by making it three defeats on the bounce in three different competitions.
The 1-0 loss to Wolfsburg follows disasters against Augsburg and Real Madrid, and now the pressure is mounting on the rookie coach for more than one reason.
Firstly, the club had to cancel open training on Wednesday due to too many injuries.
On their bench against Wolfsburg the only senior players were Marcel Sabitzer and Alex Meyer with the club releasing a statement which read: “Due to the current number of players who are injured or ailing, the team will not train on the pitch as initially planned.”
However, such a cancellation unsurprisingly caused alarm with many speculating it may be because Sahin was losing his job.
BVB have so far stood by the club legend, but now fans and media are speculating about who could potentially replace him.
One option that has instantly risen to the top of the list is Roger Schmidt who left Benfica at the start of the season after winning the title with the Portuguese side.
The German is currently negotiating a contract termination but could be available for free soon.
According to Sky Germany, Schmidt has been discussed at Dortmund in the past, but isn’t currently an option. That could change should Sahin fail to improve the club’s fortunes.
