Bayern Munich may be in the midst of their greatest ever start to a season, but fans have still had to keep them on their toes over a number of PR gaffes.
The German record champions held their AGM and despite the positivity over 15 wins from 15 this season, two themes kept coming up.
One was over offering former defender Jerome Boateng and internship, and another was the unceremonious end of Thomas Muller’s legendary Bayern career.
One member, Thomas Jaud, stood up and said: “FC Bayern should clearly stand for its values.
“Even though it was only about an internship, the lack of a clear stance gave the impression that the issue of violence against women was not being taken seriously enough.”
Torsten Resack, a former pastor, later added: “FC Bayern should stand for values. We have leading figures in the club. I found it powerful how you, Mr. Hoeneß, made a statement against the AfD at Franz Beckenbauer’s memorial service.”
Herbert Hainer responded by saying: “That was a complex case. We are entitled to have spoken with Jerome.
“We jointly decided that he would not be doing an internship at FC Bayern.”
Britt Kunert-Mahlkow said: “His departure hurt us fans deeply. We didn’t like the way it was handled at all.
“He’s not just a player to us; he’s the club’s identity, a role model, a legend who has touched our hearts deeply. His departure ripped our hearts out.”
Hainer again responded: “A farewell match is planned for Thomas Müller, and he’s been promised it.
“I wouldn’t entirely agree with them about the farewell. We’ve said goodbye to him several times, and I’ve spoken with him; he’s absolutely happy. It was a good solution for both sides.”
