Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has been forced to pass comment on an alleged conflict between coach Diego Simone and sporting director Mateu Alemany.
Former Valencia and Barcelona director Alemany only arrived in October, but has been hit with barbs from Simeone in the media.
Atleti have let four players go during the January transfer window, Javi Galán, Carlos Martín, Conor Gallagher, and Raspadori, and none have come in.
Simone recently commented that the ‘outlook for the season is bad’ while Alemany responded that they’d only sign players who ‘genuinely improved the squad’.
Now attempting to play down any fractures, Cerezo said: “Mateu Alemany and Cholo Simeone have a good relationship, do you know if they’ve had a fight or anything?
“I see his face is perfect, he doesn’t have a scratch or anything. The relationship is perfect.
“We need to be calm and we need to make signings. Both Mateu and Cholo are right.
“We are working on signings because something good is coming. We have to wait and be patient because it’s not an easy transfer market for signings, but it is for selling.”
On top of players leaving, Antoine Griezmann is injured and Julian Alvarez is on his worst goalscoring drought (10 games) since moving to Europe.
Cerezo added: “I don’t know what’s wrong with Julián Álvarez.
“The other day he played an incredible match, but he didn’t score. I talk to him, and he’s a fantastic guy.
“He’ll score goals soon, and there’s still a long season ahead.”
