The use of an AI generated Diego Maradona is causing fury in Argentina.
The legendary No.10 passed away in 2020, but a gambling company have produced an AI depiction of him to advertise their product.
In the TV commercial Maradona‘s voice is used as he says: “If the world wants to cut our legs off, we’ll show them that here, we play football.”
An image of him then appears from his playing days nodding at the camera.
While AI is becoming increasingly unpopular among the general public, this one also suggests a conflict of interest.
Maradona struggled with addiction problems throughout his career, so the use of his image in a gambling advert led to many angry comments online.
Fans vent at Maradona advert
The top comment on YouTube reads: “Those vultures! What goes around comes around, you sons of b*****s!”
Another says: “Let Diego rest in peace, you vultures. And this goes for all his lawyers and family.
“Lots of tears in front of the cameras, but not the first ones to cash in.”
The second comment refers to the widely reported story that Maradona’s family approved the use of his image in the advert.
