Burkina Faso captain Bertrand Traore put in the rant of AFCON so far following defeat to Algeria.
The 62nd-ranked FIFA side were plotting an upset against one of the tournament favourites but a Riyad Mahrez penalty decided the affair.
That was one of a number of decisions that infuriated Sunderland’s Traore who felt he should’ve had a spot kick of his own.
Speaking to BeIN post-match, he said: “It’s a shame… We lost 1-0 to a penalty. I think there was a penalty on me in the first action of the match.
“The referee didn’t even check VAR. And then, as if by magic, he stayed on the pitch for Algeria’s penalty and confirmed it.
“It’s a shame for African football, for the AFCON. The referees are ruining the match.
“In the end, the referee pushes me… That’s it… It’s disappointing… We mustn’t spoil the competition.”
